Domestic violence is no longer limited to women and minors alone as it has become rampant for men to be currently at the receiving end.
According the findings of men of the Lagos state Police command, a Lagos based lawyer who stabbed her husband to death is one of the rising cases of domestic violence against men.
The Lagos State Police Command has disclosed that the murder of 50 year old legal practitioner, Otike Odibi by his 47 year old wife and lawyer Udeme Odibi at their residence in Diamond Estate, Ogombo, Lagos was premeditated.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal who stated this during a press briefing at the police Command Headquarters in Ikeja revealed that the suspect had days before the murder procured a set of knives with which she used to execute her plan. Recall that the suspect had murdered the deceased on Thursday, ripped open his intestine with a knife and also cut off his genital. It was learnt that the couple had marital issues bothering on extra-marital affairs.
Updating journalists on the recent findings of the police, Edgal said, ” On the day of the incident, the suspect sent a WhatsApp message to her sister in-law complaining about her husband and asked her to pray for them and equally ask God to forgive her.
” The suspect, Udeme Odibi in her statement confessed to the commission of the alleged crime and also called her mother on phone that she has killed her husband; ” She had hit the deceased with a frying pan on his head before stabbing him with a knife. ” The deceased had earlier also called his mother on phone and reported that his wife was threatening to kill him with a knife; “After stabbing the deceased on the stomach and seeing the intestines forced out, the suspect did not call for assistance from their neighbours, rather, she called her mother who was miles away that she has killed her husband; ” She had packed all her certificates including O’Level Certificates and had made all arrangements to travel to the United Kingdom on Thursday morning 3rd March, 2018 by 5 am via Virgin Atlantic Airline.”
The state police boss stated that the murder weapon had been recovered and that autopsy on the deceased is currently being carried out at LASUTH by a team of Pathologists while the forensic analysis result is being compiled and would be made public later.
